Dr. Handlin is a College Placement Specialist with a wealth of knowledge and experience of all aspects of the college process. Early on, as Head of the Upper School at the Pingry School, Dr. Handlin was integrally involved in helping students realize their full potential and make the transition to the colleges that were right for them. In his years of being a headmaster, Dr. Handlin improved multiple Admissions Offices and as a result is conversant with how an Admission Office works. As the headmaster of Rockland Country Day School, he directed the school’s college placement and as headmaster of Woodstock Day School, he founded the college office as well as serving as its director. The students he has counseled have been consistently accepted by many of the most selective colleges in the world.
Dr. Handlin has both an M.ED. in Career and Counseling Psychology and an ED.D. from Columbia University. A well published poet and professional writer, he has a poem carved in marble alongside that of William Carlos Williams, Amiri Baraka and Walt Whitman in the New Jersey Transit area of Penn Station in Manhattan. He is a Founding Member and the Educational Consultant to the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Center of New Jersey in Metuchen, N.J. and is formally certified to teach MBSR by Jon Kabat-Zinn’s and Saki Santorelli’s Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School. Not only is he thoroughly grounded in the field of college placement, but he knows how important managing stress is during the college process.
